- Antibacterial effect of ozone on cariogenic bacteria and its potential prejudicial effect on dentin bond strength : an in vitro studyPublication . In a context of limited studies and no consensus on protocols, this research aims to assess ozone’s antibacterial efficacy on cariogenic bacteria and its potential adverse impact on dentin bond strength. Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sobrinus, Lactobacillus casei, and Actinomyces naeslundii suspensions were exposed to 40 μg/mL of ozone gas and 60 μg/mL of ozonated water (80 s) via a medical ozone generator. Negative and positive control groups (chlorhexidine 2%) were included, and UFC/mL counts were recorded. To examine microtensile bond strength (µTBS), 20 human molars were divided into four groups, and class I cavities were created. After ozone application, samples were restored using an etch-and-rinse and resin composite, then sectioned for testing. The SPSS v. 28 program was used with a significance level of 5%. The µTBS results were evaluated using one-way ANOVA, Tukey HSD, and Games-Howell. Bacterial counts reduced from 106 to 101, but dentin µTBS was significantly impacted by ozone (ANOVA, p < 0.001). Despite ozone’s attractive antibacterial activity, this study emphasizes its detrimental effect on dentin adhesion, cautioning against its use before restorative treatments.

- Nursing interventions for post-intensive care syndrome in follow-up clinics : a scoping reviewPublication . Gonçalves, Telma; Santos, Marta; Pontífice-Sousa, Patrícia; Antunes, Vanessa; Bacalhau, LúciaThe rise in ICU survival rates has introduced new challenges related to the long-term effects of intensive care, known as Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS). Nurses play a key role in these clinics; however, the nature and outcomes of their interventions remain insufficiently understood. Objectives: This review aims to identify nursing interventions for PICS in follow-up clinics. Methods: Using the JBI scoping review methodology, we searched PubMed, Web of Science and CINAHL (via EBSCOhost) in March 2025, and examined grey literature in RCAAP and Open Dissertations (through B-ON). Inclusion criteria, based on JBI’s PCC (Population, Concept, Context), focused on nursing interventions for PICS for patients and families in follow-up. Studies involving children, adolescents, pregnant women, and those receiving end-of-life care were excluded. Results: Encompassing studies from 2005 to 2022 across multiple countries, this review highlights nursing interventions for post-ICU recovery. A total of 394 articles that met our search criteria were found, resulting from searches in the mentioned databases. These were initially exported to Rayyan, and 115 duplicates were removed. The 21 articles that met our inclusion criteria were fully analyzed, and those that effectively answered our questions and met our inclusion criteria were selected. In the end, 9 articles were selected, to which, after an individual analysis of their bibliographic references, 3 more were added, totaling 12 articles submitted to the final analysis. Conclusions: For patients, interventions ranged from debriefing, PICS symptom evaluation, ICU re-visits, health education, cognitive–behavioral therapy and support groups, complemented by home-based physical rehabilitation and virtual reality. Family-focused interventions centered on appointment involvement, educational sessions, patient diary review, and emotional support. These assessments and interventions address the consequences of ICU admission, with the goal of facilitating physical, mental, and emotional rehabilitation of ICU survivors. This review emphasizes the critical role of follow-up consultations in the recovery of both patients and families. A comprehensive assessment using PICS scales and the integration of families into care plans are crucial for optimizing intervention outcomes. Implications for Clinical Practice: The development of evidence-based guidelines for implementation of follow-up clinics for SPICI appointments is necessary.
- Painéis Sandwich em compósito para redução de vibração e ruído em aeronaves: validação experimentalPublication . Santos, Marta; Araújo, Aurélio; Duarte, Filipa; Almeida, IvoA Força Aérea Portuguesa, através do projeto PERSEUS, tem vindo a desenvolver várias plataformas não tripuladas com o propósito de as integrar num sistema europeu de vigilância marítima. No desenvolvimento do seu recente UAV, surgiu a necessidade de criar dois painéis em compósito para proteger os sistemas aviónicos da aeronave das vibrações e do ruído provocados pelo motor. Pretende-se com a presente tese perceber qual ou quais as melhores configurações internas para os dois painéis de compósito, em sandwich, utilizando apenas os materiais existentes na CIDIFA. A escolha de utilizar estruturas em sandwich teve o propósito de caracterizar experimentalmente o seu comportamento dinâmico, e compreender de que maneira a introdução de um núcleo (neste caso de espuma) melhora a capacidade de absorção de vibração e ruído de uma estrutura. Com vista a esse fim, foram fabricadas placas sandwich em compósito com diferentes composições e diferentes materiais, nomeadamente fibra de vidro de carbono. Adicionamente, foram também fabricadas placas com núcleos duplos de espuma (com fibra no interior) para serem comparadas com as placas sandwich tradicionais de um único núcleo. Os ensaios experimentais foram divididos em duas partes: vibrações e ruído. Os ensaios de vibrações, que decorreram no IST, tiveram o objetivo de recolher as funções de resposta de cada um dos provetas, para que a sua respetiva análise permitisse calcular os coeficientes de amortecimento de cada frequência natural (em cada placa), tendo sido empregues, para o efeito, dois métodos de processamento diferentes. Os ensaios de ruído, realizados na FEUP, possibilitaram quantificar, de forma bastante simples, a quantidade de ruído que é absorvida por cada placa. Do estudo dos resultados obtidos, em ambos os ensaios experimentais, foi possível apresentar diferentes soluções para os dois problemas propostos na dissertação, simulando diferentes cenários e limitações possíveis de serem exigidas pela FAP.
