- How can a healthy brunch with a storytelling game contribute to mitigate the generation gap? Redefining the sociability of foodPublication . Monteiro, Sofia Beatriz Caetano; Pires, Maria José PereiraHow can a healthy brunch with a storytelling game experience contribute to mitigate the generation gap? The importance of this issue lies in the fact that it seeks to discover new meanings for food. At the same time, it aims to mitigate a problem with which contemporary Western societies grapple with no solution in sight: the generation gap. Methodologically it is a mixed investigation that used mainly qualitative methods. The investigation process was conceived in two significant moments. In the first, which corresponds to a theoretical phase, a literature review about food, generation gap, gamification and digital storytelling was carried out. The second phase is empirical and encompassed the creation and experimentation of a food experience based on an innovation in a vegetarian brunch concept. The innovation of this project is related to the creation of an experience designed to, in some way, contribute to mitigate the problem of the generation gap, bringing together elderly (born from 1927 to 1961) and millennials (born from 1981 to 2000) individuals in a brunch meal, during which a game promotes and streamlines the interaction between the participants; if we still consider that this kind of initiative is scarce, On the other hand, if we still consider this kind of initiative is scarce, the relevance of such projects becomes even more evident. The experience made it possible to verify that the game, played around a meal, allowed the participants to break the ice, motivated by the apparent absence of affinities, making possible to overcome, with relative ease, the habitual circumstantial conversation. The game experience, which challenged the participants to "think", "share", "talk", "hear", "taste" and "have fun", allowed the participants to tell and listen to micro-stories related to the memories and daily experiences of each participant, allowing each of them to access the personal universe of others. We all like stories and have hidden, untold stories. Therefore, they can efficiently serve as a bridge between different groups, cultures or generations, specially through eating together. Based on the literature review and individual research, it was possible to verify that, since the generation gap is a wicked problem to solve, it is desirable to develop projects that create opportunities for contact and significant interactions between different generations.
