- Post-traumatic growth in children : relationship with anxiety, coping strategies and life satisfactionPublication . Marques, Jéssica Renata Antunes; Almeida, TelmaBackground: Exposure to trauma in childhood can lead to the development of anxious symptoms. To reduce the stress and difficulties of these situations, individuals resort to coping strategies that allow them to achieve post-traumatic growth, increased life satisfaction, and overall quality of life. Objectives: To assess the relationship between anxiety, coping strategies, life satisfaction, and PTG and to compare a sample of children who experienced traumatic events and children who didn’t experience traumatic events in terms of these variables. Participants: The sample includes 148 children aged between 7 and 10, 78 boys and 70 girls. Of these, 80 reported having suffered some type of trauma. Method: Application of a sociodemographic questionnaire, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC), Kidcope, Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and Revised Posttraumatic Growth Inventory for Children (PTGI-C-R). Results: In the sample of victims, positive correlations were observed between PTGI-C-R and the other instruments. The PTGI-C-R subscales correlated both positively and negatively with the Kidcope subscales. STAIC correlates negatively with SWLS and positively with Kidcope subscales. When comparing groups, the sample of victims showed higher scores for Sadness. Wishful thinking and life satisfaction are predictors of PTG. Conclusion: The present study highlights the importance of emotion regulation, positive coping strategies, and life satisfaction to achieve PTG in children who experienced traumatic events.
