- A instrumentalização dos “Media” nos conflitosPublication . Lopes, BrunoO presente trabalho visa, em primeiro lugar, analisar a nova conceção e forma de atuação do terrorismo, numa segunda fase, analisar os media, os tradicionais e os novos e, finalmente, caracterizar a ligação entre os media e o terrorismo para concluirmos se as escolhas dos timings e da tipologia das próprias ações por parte das organizações terroristas, levam em conta a mediatização que os media lhes proporcionam. Da mesma forma, visa analisar como os media sociais, para além de servirem os interesses do terrorismo, podem ser utilizados como um catalisador ou “acelerador” de conflitos, sendo disso exemplo o fenómeno da Primavera Árabe. Neste contexto, a questão central que orienta este trabalho e à qual pretendemos dar resposta é a seguinte: “Qual o impacto social da instrumentalização dos media?”, iremos fazê-lo de acordo com a Metodologia de Investigação Científica, seguindo o método hipotético. Após uma breve introdução iremos abordar a questão do terrorismo, apresentando o conceito que será utilizado e, seguidamente, apresentamos um enquadramento histórico-científico da evolução do terrorismo no mundo, nas últimas décadas. Seguidamente, desenvolveremos o tema dos media, primeiro com os media tradicionais, focando a sua natureza e função para, seguidamente, desenvolvermos o modo como se processou a sua metamorfose. Finalmente, passaremos a descrever os media sociais, começando por abordar a plataforma Internet, para depois compreendermos as potencialidades, limitações e riscos dos media sociais. Após analisados os intervenientes, iremos explicitar como se efetua a instrumentalização dos media. Primeiro, analisando quais as características dos media tradicionais que os tornam atrativos à exploração por parte de organizações terroristas. Seguidamente, verificaremos o que motiva os media a darem cobertura mediática às ações terroristas. Abordaremos então como as organizações terroristas e os movimentos sociais utilizam a Internet, em particular os media sociais. Terminaremos com umas breves conclusões onde, procuramos dar resposta à Questão Central, apresentando as recomendações que consideramos pertinentes. Abstract: The present work aims, first of all, to examine the terrorism new conception and course of action then, analyze the media, traditional and new and finally to characterize the connection between media and terrorism to conclude whether the choices, the timing and type of actions, on the part of terrorist organizations, take into account the media coverage that they provide. Also aims to analyze how social media, as well as serving the interests of terrorism, can be used as a catalyst or "accelerator" of conflicts, being an example, the phenomenon of Arab Spring. In this context the central question that guides this work and which we intend to answer is: "What is the social impact of the instrumentalization of the media?" We will do it according to the Methodology of Scientific Research, following the hypothetical method. After a brief introduction, we’ll address the issue of terrorism, presenting the concept to be used and then present a framework of historical and scientific evolution of terrorism in the world in recent decades. Then, develop the theme of the media, first with the traditional media, focusing on the nature and function to, subsequently, develop the way they processed their metamorphosis. Finally, we’ll describe social media, starting by addressing the Internet platform, and then understand the strengths, limitations and risks of social media. After analyzing the actors, we’ll explain how it makes the manipulation of the media. First, analyzing which characteristics the traditional media have, that makes them attractive to exploitation by terrorist organizations. Then we verify what motivates the media to give coverage to violent actions. We will discuss then, how the terrorist organizations and social movements use the Internet, more specifically social media. We end with brief conclusions where we seek to answer the central question, presenting the recommendations that we consider relevant.
- Validation of a smartphone application for measuring peak torque during the Nordic hamstring exercise in recreational athletesPublication . Dias, Amândio; Lopes, Bruno; Machado, Francisco; Fonseca, João; Santos, Ricardo; Alves, RodrigoBackground/Objectives: Hamstring injuries are highly prevalent in sports and often occur, particularly among recreational and professional athletes. Assessing eccentric hamstring strength is critical for injury prevention and rehabilitation, with isokinetic dynamometry being considered the gold standard. However, its accessibility is limited by cost and logistics. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the My Jump Lab (version 4.0) mobile application in estimating eccentric peak torque in the break-point angle, compared with isokinetic dynamometry. Methods: Twenty-seven recreational athletes (twenty-six male, one female) were assessed bilaterally using the mobile application and isokinetic dynamometer, which is considered the gold standard for this type of strength assessment. Statistical analysis included Pearson’s correlation, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), standard error of measurement (SEM), coefficient of variation (CV), and Bland–Altman plots. Results: Results showed excellent inter-rater reliability (ICC = 0.999; CV = 0.66%) for both smartphone application evaluators and good comparative validity and reliability (ICC ≈ 0.76 with confidence interval: 0.5367–0.876; p < 0.001 and r ≈ 0.705;) when comparing with isokinetic dynamometry. Conclusions: My Jump Lab is a mobile application which can provide a practical and accessible mean for monitoring eccentric hamstring strength in field settings. The app may serve as a feasible field-based alternative to laboratory dynamometry for eccentric strength monitoring.
