- Constraints on off-shell Higgs boson production and the Higgs boson total width in $ZZ\to4\ell$ and $ZZ\to2\ell2\nu$ final states with the ATLAS detectorPublication . ATLAS collaboration (2932 authors); Aguilar Saavedra, Juan Antonio; Amor Dos Santos, Susana Patricia; Araque Espinosa, Juan Pedro; Castro, Nuno Filipe; Conde Muino, Patricia; Da Cunha Sargedas De Sousa, Mario Jose; Dias DO Vale, Tiago; Faisca Rodrigues Pereira, Rui Miguel; Fiolhais, Miguel; Galhardo, Bruno; Gomes, Agostinho; Goncalo, Ricardo; Jorge, Pedro; Machado Miguens, Joana; Maio, Amelia; Maneira, Jose; Mendes Gouveia, Emanuel Demetrio; Oleiro Seabra, Luis Filipe; Onofre, Antonio; Costa Batalha Pedro, Rute; Pereira Peixoto, Ana Paula; Santos, Helena; Saraiva, Joao; Silva, Jose Manuel; Tavares Delgado, Ademar; Veloso, Filipe; Wolters, HelmutA measurement of off-shell Higgs boson production in the $ZZ\to4\ell$ and $ZZ\to2\ell2\nu$ decay channels, where $\ell$ stands for either an electron or a muon, is performed using data from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. The data were collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2015 and 2016 at the Large Hadron Collider, and they correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb$^{-1}$. An observed (expected) upper limit on the off-shell Higgs signal strength, defined as the event yield normalised to the Standard Model prediction, of 3.8 (3.4) is obtained at 95% confidence level (CL). Assuming the ratio of the Higgs boson couplings to the Standard Model predictions is independent of the momentum transfer of the Higgs production mechanism considered in the analysis, a combination with the on-shell signal-strength measurements yields an observed (expected) 95% CL upper limit on the Higgs boson total width of 14.4 (15.2) MeV.
- Measurement of $\chi_{c1}$ and $\chi_{c2}$ production with $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV $pp$ collisions at ATLASPublication . ATLAS collaboration (2932 authors); Aguilar-Saavedra, Juan Antonio; Amor Dos Santos, Susana Patricia; Anjos, Nuno; Cantrill, Robert; Carvalho, Joao; Castro, Nuno Filipe; Conde Muino, Patricia; Da Cunha Sargedas De Sousa, Mario Jose; Do Valle Wemans, Andr\'e; Fiolhais, Miguel; Galhardo, Bruno; Gomes, Agostinho; Gon\c calo, Ricardo; Jorge, Pedro; Lopes, Lourenco; Machado Miguens, Joana; Maio, Am\'elia; Maneira, Jos\'e; Marques, Carlos; Oliveira, Miguel Alfonso; Onofre, Ant\'onio; Palma, Alberto; Pedro, Rute; Pina, Joao Antonio; Pinto, Belmiro; Santos, Helena; Saraiva, Joao; Silva, Jos\'e; Tavares Delgado, Ademar; Veloso, Filipe; Wolters, HelmutThe prompt and non-prompt production cross-sections for the chi_c1 and chi_c2 charmonium states are measured in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using 4.5 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity. The chi_c states are reconstructed through the radiative decay chi_c -> J/psi gamma (with J/psi -> mu+mu-) where photons are reconstructed from gamma -> e+e- conversions. The production rate of the chi_c2 state relative to the chi_c1 state is measured for prompt and non-prompt chi_c as a function of J/psi transverse momentum. The prompt chi_c cross-sections are combined with existing measurements of prompt J/psi production to derive the fraction of prompt J/psi produced in feed-down from chi_c decays. The fractions of chi_c1 and chi_c2 produced in b-hadron decays are also measured.
- Observation of a new particle in the search for the Standard Model Higgs boson with the ATLAS detector at the LHCPublication . ATLAS collaboration (2932 authors); Aguilar-Saavedra, Juan Antonio; Amor Dos Santos, Susana Patricia; Anjos, Nuno; Cantrill, Robert; Carvalho, João; Castro, Nuno Filipe; Conde Muiño, Patricia; Da Cunha Sargedas De Sousa, Mario Jose; Do Valle Wemans, André; Fiolhais, Miguel; Galhardo, Bruno; Gomes, Agostinho; Gonçalo, Ricardo; Jorge, Pedro; Lopes, Lourenco; Machado Miguens, Joana; Maio, Amélia; Maneira, José; Oliveira, Miguel Alfonso; Onofre, António; Palma, Alberto; Pina, João Antonio; Pinto, Belmiro; Santos, Helena; Saraiva, João; Silva, José; Veloso, Filipe; Wolters, HelmutA search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. The datasets used correspond to integrated luminosities of approximately 4.8 fb^-1 collected at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV in 2011 and 5.8 fb^-1 at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV in 2012. Individual searches in the channels H->ZZ^(*)->llll, H->gamma gamma and H->WW->e nu mu nu in the 8 TeV data are combined with previously published results of searches for H->ZZ^(*), WW^(*), bbbar and tau^+tau^- in the 7 TeV data and results from improved analyses of the H->ZZ^(*)->llll and H->gamma gamma channels in the 7 TeV data. Clear evidence for the production of a neutral boson with a measured mass of 126.0 +/- 0.4(stat) +/- 0.4(sys) GeV is presented. This observation, which has a significance of 5.9 standard deviations, corresponding to a background fluctuation probability of 1.7x10^-9, is compatible with the production and decay of the Standard Model Higgs boson.
