Abstract(s)
The main objective of this internship report is to present the curricular internship carried out at the Veterinary Hospital Muralha de Évora and the attribution of the higher degree of “Licentiate in Veterinary Nursing”. A veterinary hospital is an animal health entity, in which a greater variety of specialties, technical and technological training are concentrated, paying special attention to all types of casuistry through diagnosis, treatment and assistance with maximum speed and efficiency. The possibility of an internship in a veterinary hospital allows putting into practice all the academic skills acquired during the course. For several years now, research on blood pressure parameters its control mechanisms and possibilities for pharmacological modification in companion animals has intensified in veterinary medicine. The relationships between pathologies such as renal failure, obesity, endocrinopathies and cardiovascular diseases, which can cause changes in blood pressure, have been a constant concern in the internal medicine of dogs and cats. Blood pressure is one of the most important monitoring parameters for assessing hemodynamic status especially in critically ill patients undergoing anesthesia and/or sedation, contributing largely to anesthetic safety. Based on this research and with the objective of deepening knowledge in the field of nursing in a medical-surgical clinic in companion animals, the student developed the topic presented. The analysis of clinical cases of surgery, between healthy animals and animals with associated anesthetic risk, allowed us to understand how the blood pressure parameter can vary in the peri anesthetic period.
