Abstract(s)
Health Care Associated Infection (HAI) or nosocomial infection is recognized worldwide as a serious public health problem. In Portugal, the percentage of patients with HAI was 7.8% in 2017, according to the Coordination Group of the Program for the Prevention and Control of Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (GCPPCIRA, 2018). In the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), the prevalence rate of hospital infection was 8.3%, with 26.9% corresponding to the prevalence of lower respiratory tract infection. Lately, an increasing significance has been attributed to the prevention of nosocomial pneumonia not associated with mechanical ventilation, which is an important cause of mortality. The aim of this project is to reduce this type of pneumonia by 50% in RAM, over the course of four year. Interventions were created based on sets of prevention measures, bundles, which will be applied in a coordinated manner through the awareness and training of the professionals involved and subject to continuous monitoring, with a view to obtaining results and improving the care provided
