No setor de reciclagem de REEE, mostra-se importante que o empregador, através dos Serviços de Segurança e Saúde no Trabalho (SST), realize uma avaliação de riscos específica para os agentes químicos cancerígenos, visando promover uma adequada prevenção dos riscos nos locais de trabalho, onde os trabalhadores deste setor estão potencialmente expostos a este tipo de agentes.
Este estudo tem por finalidade a identificação das metodologias e procedimentos de avaliações de riscos realizadas pelos SSST do setor de reciclagem de REEE, no âmbito dos agentes químicos cancerígenos, e propor algumas recomendações para a avaliação de riscos neste setor profissional, de forma a facilitar aos TST/TSST o estabelecimento e implementação de medidas de prevenção e/ou proteção aos trabalhadores expostos a este tipo de agentes.
O tipo de estudo utilizado no âmbito desta dissertação de mestrado foi descritivo-exploratório, recorrendo à revisão de literatura e realização de questionário-entrevista a empresas de reciclagem de REEE em Portugal, na região de Lisboa, como recolha de dados.
Através da revisão de literatura, foram identificadas 12 substâncias químicas cancerígenas presentes nos REEE, com particular evidência nos materiais de plástico, placas de circuito, baterias e soldaduras dos equipamentos.
Usualmente as avaliações de risco realizadas pelas empresas de reciclagem de REEE são avaliações genéricas, o que resulta na implementação de medidas de prevenção e/ou proteção insuficientes para o controlo do risco da exposição dos trabalhadores a agentes químicos cancerígenos.
São apresentadas recomendações para avaliação de riscos a trabalhadores do setor de reciclagem de REEE expostos, ou potencialmente expostos, a agentes químicos cancerígenos com o intuito de auxiliar os TST/TSST a prevenir o cancro profissional neste setor.
In the e-waste sector, is important that the employer, through Occupational Health and Safety services, perform a specific risk assessment for carcinogenic chemical substances that promotes an adequate risk prevention in workplaces, where workers of this sector are potentially exposed to this kind of agent. The main objective of this study is to identify risk assessment methodologies and procedures performed by Occupational Health and Safety services and assess recommendations for risk assessment in the field of carcinogenic chemical agents, suitable to the sector of e-waste recycling, in order to ease Occupational Health and Safety professionals in the establishment and appliance of preventive and protective measures to exposed workers to these agents. The type of study used was explanatory-descriptive using literature review and questionnaire-interview of e-waste recycling organizations in Lisbon, Portugal, as data collection. According to literature review, it was identified 12 carcinogenic chemical substances present in e-waste, essentially in plastic materials, circuit boards, and equipment’s solders. The risk assessment performed by the e-waste recycling organization is not a specific assessment, which implies that the implementation of preventive and protection measures are not sufficient to control the risk of worker’s exposure to carcinogenic chemicals substances. In this study is shown a few recommendations for risk assessments to e-waste recycling workers exposed or potentially exposed to carcinogenic chemicals agents in order to help Occupational Health and Safety professionals prevent occupational cancer in this sector.
