Dirofilariose Cardiopulmonar Canina Caracterização epidemiológica na região do Algarve

| dc.description.abstract | Este relatório descreve as atividades desenvolvidas pela aluna durante o estágio curricular da Licenciatura em Enfermagem Veterinária, realizado na clínica veterinária Inemvet. Os objetivos do estágio centraram-se em aprofundar os conhecimentos adquiridos durante a licenciatura e em desenvolver competências na prática clínica médico-cirúrgica. Durante o período de estágio a aluna teve oportunidade de trabalhar em diferentes áreas, como no apoio às consultas, urgências, cirurgia e anestesia, internamento e pós-operatório, análises clínicas, meios complementares de diagnóstico e higiene e estética animal, onde participou em 85 consultas, 77 métodos complementares de diagnóstico, 29 cirurgias e 28 recobros pós-cirúrgicos. O Algarve é descrito como uma região hiperendémica para a Dirofilariose cardiopulmonar canina. Esta doença parasitária afeta o sistema cardiovascular dos canídeos e, nos últimos anos, tem vindo a ganhar bastante importância e preocupação, devido à sua expansão e ao seu potencial zoonótico. Provoca uma sintomatologia maioritariamente cardíaca e pode mesmo levar à morte dos animais. Paralelamente às atividades clínicas, foi desenvolvido um estudo que teve como objetivo avaliar a prevalência da Dirofilariose, os fatores que a afetam e o conhecimento dos tutores sobre a doença, na região do Algarve. Para isso, foram elaborados 19 testes de gota fresca (onde se obteve um caso positivo) e disponibilizados questionários online aos tutores e centros de atendimento médico veterinário da região. Obteve-se um total de 409 respostas no primeiro, onde houve 32 casos positivos de Dirofilariose (71,87% pertencentes aos concelhos de Olhão e a Faro) e 6 respostas no segundo. Com este estudo concluiu-se que a Dirofilariose cardiopulmonar canina encontra-se bastante presente no Algarve e que, embora uma grande parte da população a conheça, ainda há muitos tutores descuidados com a prevenção, pondo em causa a saúde dos seus animais de companhia | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This report describes the activities developed by the student during the curricular internship, of the degree in veterinary nursing, held at the veterinary clinic Inemvet. The objectives of the internship were foccused on deepening the knowledge acquired during the degree and developing skills in medical-surgical clinical practice. During the internship period, the student had the opportunity to work in different areas, such as supporting consultations, emergencies, surgery and anesthesia, hospitalization, clinical analyzes, complementary diagnostic methods and animal hygiene and aesthetics, where she participated in 85 consultations, 77 complementary diagnostic methods, 29 surgeries and 28 post-surgical recoveries. Algarve is described as a hyper-endemic region for canine cardopulmonary Heartworm. This parasitic disease affects the cardiovascular system of canids and which, in recente years, has been gaining considerable importance and concern, due to its expansion and zoonotic potential. It causes mainly cardiac symptoms and can even lead to death of the animals. In parallel with clinical activities, a study was developed to assess the prevalence of Heartworm disease, the factors that affect it and the knowledge of tutors about the disease in Algarve. For this, 19 blood smears were developed (where a positive case was obtained) and online questionnairies were made available to tutors and veterinary medical care centres in the region. A total of 409 responses were obtained in the first one, where there were 32 positive cases of Heartworm disease (71,87% belonging to the municipalities of Olhão and Faro) and 6 responses in the second one. With this study it was concluded that canine cardiopulmonary Heartworm is very present in Algarve and that, although a large part of the population knows it, there are still many tutors who are careless with prevention, putting their pets´s Health in jeopardy. | pt_PT |
