Abstract(s)
estranhos no trato digestivo superior.
Endoscopy is a technique, in which it’s used existing orifices for introduction of instruments. Upper endoscopy of the gastrointestinal system can be used as a diagnostic or treatment technique in the recovery of foreign bodies. This report aims to understand the technique of endoscopy in dogs, and the tasks inherent to performing this procedure, from the perspective of a veterinary nurse. Endoscopy is contextualized in history and some basic concepts and principles of endoscopy are defined, explaining the operation of the device, the technique and the tasks inherent to the veterinary nurse such as patient preparation, work area and anaesthetic monitoring. There is also an integrative review of articles where this technique is implemented, helping to understand its relevance. These articles were obtained from PubMed with the research “endoscopy, dog, foreign, bodies”, done in the last 10 years. Ten articles are reviewed, including case reports and retrospective studies on foreign body recovery. A review is made about the technique used to recover foreign bodies - endoscopy or surgery - the associated clinical signs, the complementary tests performed, the type of foreign body, the associated complications and the mortality rate. It is concluded that endoscopy can be a useful technique in the recovery of foreign bodies, but also as a diagnosis, to assist in the decision to implement the surgery, which may not be preventable. This technique is also be a good treatment option, when other complications are associated with ingestion of foreign bodies such as necrosis, intussusception or rupture of the mucosa.
