St, Enf e IQ).
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the productive performance and technological quality of 10 advanced lines from INIAV ́s soft wheat breeding program, using 3 commercial varieties as references (Acorazado, Paiva and Roxo), in the two main cereal-producing regions of the country (Alto and Baixo Alentejo). A field trial was carried out with a randomized complete block experimental design, with 3 replications. Evaluations were carried out for some phenological parameters related to the stages of the wheat development cycle (heading date, grain filling period, cycle duration), some agronomic parameters (TGW, grains/m 2 , yield), as well as general quality indicators (hectoliter weight, protein and SDS), alveograph parameters (W, P/L) and farinograph parameters (Ab, Td, St, Enf and IQ). The influence of genotype (G), environment (E) and their interaction (GxE) affected all the parameters under study, but with different relevance. For agronomic indices and some quality parameters (hectoliter weight, protein, SDS, Ab, Td and St), the environment was the most important factor. For the alveograph parameters (W, P/L) and the remaining farinograph parameters (Enf, IQ), the genotype was more determinant. The interaction was predominantly highly significant, showing that genotypes behave differently depending on the environment in which they develop. Two promising advanced lines in terms of yield were identified, L8 and L9 (with yields above 8500 kg/ha in Beja), which failed to express their true potential in Elvas. The quality results were not as good, with the check variety Acorazado standing out as a quality reference. The advanced lines with the best performance were L3 and L7. The climatic conditions experienced in southern Portugal offer suitable conditions for wheat production, but there is great unpredictability in the characteristics obtained by the genotypes in terms of productivity and quality, which complicates breeding work and requires multi-year analysis.
