Abstract(s)
La elección como Tesis de Disertación de Maestrado el presente “TRABAJO
DE PROYECTO”, no fue fácil, pero una vez finalizado el proceso de investigación y el
estudio exhaustivo de la zona de ubicación, éste fue fluyendo de manera natural,
sobre una base conceptual sólida y consistente.
Desde su inicio se ha pretendido ir más allá que una edificación que mejore
y complemente las ya existentes, para convertirse en icono y configurarse como un
autentico centro dinamizador de los deportes del remo y piragüismo.
La localización propuesta es inmejorable, gracias a las características
propias e inherentes del entorno, debido a que la parcela se encuentra flanqueada al
norte: por el Casco Histórico-Artístico; al sur: por el “Puente Internacional”; al este: por
el río Miño (con su gran lámina de agua) y el “Camiño Xacobeo Portugués”; y por el
oeste: el Parador Nacional de Turismo San Telmo.
Esta configuración territorial del área de actuación hace que tomando
como punto de discontinuidad el propio río Miño, se actúe de tal forma que se
conformen dos elementos continuos, dando lugar a las dos edificaciones del proyecto,
una de ellas semienterrada respecto de la cota superior de acceso, cuyas cubiertas
accesibles y transitables, favorecen el disfrute de las vistas sobre el río y del paisaje
circundante, y la otra, sobre un gran pantalán flotante sobre el propio río, que sirve de
hangar para guardar y reparar las embarcaciones después de realizar los
entrenamientos, y con una característica dinámica singular, ya que su posición
altimétrica varía influido por las mareas que afectan a este tramo de río.
Desde el punto de vista de concepto de proyecto, siempre se tuvo como
premisa fundamental acomodar la edificación al territorio, de tal forma que nunca se
viese violentado este último, sino al contrario, que fuese él, el que marcase las pautas
de asentamiento de la misma. Por eso, tanto la edificación principal como el hangar,
se sitúan tras los tramos de fuerte desnivel que presenta la parcela, creando un
camuflaje natural respecto a la parte elevada, mientras que en el zona de transición y
comunicación entre ambas edificaciones, se genera una gran plaza que amplía el
espacio de ocio y disfrute del paseo fluvial.
Así mismo, las edificaciones proyectadas fundamentan su composición
formal y conceptual, en la imagen del Puente Internacional, de marcado carácter
industrial, concretamente de la arquitectura industrial de mediados y finales del siglo
XIX.
Ambas edificaciones, de marcado porte longitudinal, se recubren de una
piel formada por una estructura de acero, creando una malla diagonal donde los
rombos originados se cubren con chapas perforadas al 23% (donde en algunos puntos
concretos se puede optar por sustituirlas por vidrios de colores, para una mayor
focalización, en puntos concretos, de entrada de luz al edificio), confiriéndole mayor
confort, mejorando la ventilación, controlando la entrada de luz natural, pudiendo
generar energía, así como un fácil mantenimiento, en definitiva, otorgándole las
propiedades necesarias de sostenibilidad.
Abstract: The choice of Dissertation for my Master’s Thesis on this ‘PROJECT’ was not easy an easy one, but once the process of investigation and the exhaustive study of the location were complete it flowed naturally from a conceptual base which is both solid and consistent. From the very beginning I have endeavoured to make this more than a mere construction project that improves and complements its surroundings, but for it to become an icon and to lend itself as a revitalising centre for the sports of rowing and canoeing. The proposed location is superb, thanks to the surrounding areas inherent characteristics and the position of the plot itself. It is flanked to the north by the Historical-Artistic Helmet, to the south by the ‘International Bridge’, to the east by the River Miño and its great sweeping sheet of water and the ‘Portuguese Route of the Way of St. James’, and finally to the West by the National Heritage Parador of San Telmo. Considering the territorial configuration of the construction area and taking the River Miño itself as an extension of the territory, we should continue in such a way that they form two continuous elements, giving rise to the projects two constructions. One of them semi underground with upper level access which also allows us to benefit from the views on the river and the surrounding landscape, and the other on great jetty floating on the river itself, that will serve as hangar to keep and to repair the boats after training, and with one singular dynamic characteristic, due to its topographical position which fluctuates influenced by the tides that affect this section of river. From the point of view of project concept, it was always a fundamental premise to accommodate the construction to the environment in such a way that the environment itself was not violated, but on the contrary it was what would demark the limits and rules of the construction. For that very reason, the main construction as well as the hangar, are positioned after the areas of great unevenness that the plot presents, creating a natural camouflage with respect to the elevated part, whereas in the area of connection and communication between both constructions, a great zone is generated that enhances and expands the leisure spaces and enable us to enjoy the rivers flow. As well as this the projected constructions base their formal and conceptual composition reflecting the image of the ‘International Bridge’ and its notable industrial character, specifically that of the industrial architecture of the mid to end of the 19th century. Both constructions along their length are covered by a steel skin forming a diagonal mesh and creating diamond shapes which are covered with plates perforated to 23% (in certain areas we can opt to substitute these panels with coloured glass for a greater focal point and in other areas to allow natural light into the space) giving a greater comfort, better ventilation, control of light and being able to generate energy as well as ease of maintenance, in other words giving it the properties needed to making it sustainable.
