A aluna prestou auxílio
funções do Enfermeiro Veterinário (EV).
The curricular internship was held out at Associação São Francisco de AssisCascais (ASFA), in the field of the pets, and its primary goals were not only to develop autonomy, but also to integrate knowledge acquired during the course, and to present a protocol proposal developed by the student. The student provided assistance mainly in the area of surgery, through the preparation of the operating room, the animal to be operated on, the respective surgical material, the anesthetic monitoring and the assistance provided to the veterinarian, thus consolidating the functions of the Veterinary Nurse. In the last few years, the Shelter Medicine area has been growing and evolving positively, which helps to combat the spread of infectious and zoonotic diseases in a favorable environment, such as an animal shelter. Through prevention strategies, implementation of sanitation protocols, and team education, it is possible to reduce the chance of outbreaks. This last factor proves to be the most important one, because if the staff is aware of the importance of knowledge of this type of disease and its forms of transmission, it is immediately contributing to the welfare of the animals in charge.
