Síndrome de Evans na espécie canina

O presente relatório descreve o estágio curricular realizado na Clínica Veterinária
Amantea, em Badajoz, Espanha, no âmbito da Licenciatura em Enfermagem Veterinária da Escola
Superior de Biociências de Elvas. A síndrome de Evans é uma doença hematológica
imunomediada caracterizada pela ocorrência simultânea ou sequencial de anemia hemolítica
imunomediada e trombocitopenia imunomediada. O principal objetivo constituiu em integrar os
conhecimentos científicos adquiridos ao longo da formação com a experiência prática em
contexto clínico, aprofundando os conhecimentos científicos sobre esta doença e consolidando
competências na monitorização de pacientes hematológicas. Durante o estágio, foram
desenvolvidas atividades nas áreas de medicina interna, cirurgia, anestesia, internamento,
laboratório, imagiologia e atendimento de espécies exóticas. Foram acompanhados 265 animais,
dos quais 66,0% eram cães, 23,8% gatos e 10,2% espécies exóticas. Entre os casos acompanhados
destacou-se o Rollo, um cão diagnosticado com Síndrome de Evans, cuja evolução clínica foi
monitorizada durante aproximadamente 11 meses através de hemogramas seriados, análises
bioquímicas, urianálise, exame coprológico, imagiologia e testes moleculares. O
acompanhamento permitiu avaliar a evolução das alterações hematológicas, a resposta à
terapêutica imunossupressora, a ocorrência de recidivas e as complicações associadas ao
tratamento prolongado. A análise crítica evidenciou a complexidade do diagnóstico e
acompanhamento desta doença, reforçando a importância da monitorização contínua, da
integração dos dados clínicos e laboratoriais e da colaboração da equipa médico-veterinária.
Conclui-se que o estágio permitiu cumprir os objetivos propostos, contribuindo para a
consolidação de competências técnico-científicas e para a preparação para o exercício
profissional da Enfermagem veterinária.
This report describes the curricular internship carried out at Clínica Veterinária Amantea, in Badajoz, Spain, as part of the Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Nursing at Escola Superior de Biociências de Elvas. Evans Syndrome is an immune-mediated haematological disease characterized by the simultaneous or sequential occurrence of immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia and immune-mediated thrombocytopenia. The main objective was to integrate the scientific knowledge acquired throughout the degree with practical experience in a clinical setting, deepening knowledge of this disease and consolidating skills in the monitoring of haematological patients. During the internship, carried out between February and June 2026, activities were developed in internal medicine, surgery, anaesthesia, hospitalization, laboratory, diagnostic imaging and exotic animal care. A total of 265 animals were followed, of which 66.0% were dogs, 23.8% cats and 10.2% exotic species. Among the cases followed, Rollo, a dog diagnosed with Evans Syndrome, stood out, with clinical evolution monitored for approximately eleven months through serial complete blood counts, biochemical analyses, urinalysis, faecal examination, diagnostic imaging and molecular tests. This follow-up allowed the evolution of haematological abnormalities, response to immunosuppressive therapy, relapses and complications associated with prolonged treatment to be assessed. The critical analysis highlighted the complexity of diagnosing and monitoring this disease, reinforcing the importance of continuous monitoring, integration of clinical and laboratory data, and collaboration within the veterinary medical team. It is concluded that the internship objectives were fulfilled, contributing to the consolidation of technical and scientific skills and to preparation for professional practice in Veterinary Nursing.
