Abstract(s)
Desta forma, a aluna teve a
A análise demonstrou
animal.
This document was written as part of the curricular internship for the undergraduate course in Veterinary Nursing by the student, at the Patas e Pêlos veterinary clinic, lasting twelve weeks, from 17/02/2025 to 09/05/2025. During the internship, the student had contact with six hundred and forty-five animals, performing essentially four hundred and eighty-one surgical activities, three hundred and seventy-five nursing consultations, seven hundred and forty-two hospitalization activities, among other tasks, which she was able to carry out independently. In this way, the student had the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired throughout the course, obtaining practical and technical skills in a consistent and well-founded way. Furthermore, she delved deeper into the topic of communication within the scope of her work as a veterinary nurse, with the specific objective of preparing and applying questionnaires, in physical and digital format, to the clinic’s tutors. Seventy one valid responses were obtained, of which 85% belonged to female guardians and 15% to male guardians, and 70% had already participated in a veterinary nursing consultation. The analysis showed that each tutor has their own profile, with different preferences and ways of learning, highlighting the need for the professional to develop effective communication skills that are adaptable to each tutor. This approach aimed to collect empirical data on the perception of tutors/clients regarding verbal and non-verbal communication, allowing a critical analysis and interpretation of real results, in line with the student's area of interest and the theme chosen for the course completion work. The choice of this theme for the final report arises and focuses on the increase in the number of veterinary nursing consultations in clinical practice in Portugal, as well as the growing importance of communication in customer service. In this sense, the main types of communication used in clinical practice are presented and their impact on the perception of treatments and animal welfare is analyzed.
