Abstract(s)
The Military Higher Education given by the Military Academy is fundamental in the training of future officers of the Portuguese army. Such training focuses on the academic, physical, military, cultural and behavioral aspects, being thus essential in the development of students, both as military and as human beings. As a consequence, there is a need for effective and constant adaptation to situations and experiences in which they are placed, in order to get the best out of all the teachings and experiences. It is pertinent to study the relationship and influence that Career Adaptability of the students has on such important characteristics as Life Satisfaction, Job Satisfaction and Performance perception. This research sampled 236 students from the Military Academy attending from the 1st to the 4th year, inclusive, in the academic year 2016/2017. Were applied scales of Career Adaptability (Duarte et al., 2012), Life Satisfaction (Diener, Emmons, Larson & Griffin, 1985), Job Satisfaction (Judge & Klinger, 2000), Subjective Happiness (Lyubomirsky & Lepper, 1999), and a measure of Perceived Life Control (Welzel & Inglehart, 1998). To evaluate the perceived perception of performance, a self-assessment measure was applied to the students. The results show that characteristics such as Curiosity, Concern and Control, dimensions of Career Adaptability, positively influence Life Satisfaction, Job Satisfaction and Performance perception. It was also concluded that the levels of satisfaction and happiness of the students decrease with the years. The results are relevant because they allow the Military Academy to recognize not only the characteristics that most influence the satisfaction and perception of performance of its students, but also those that enhance a better adaptation to the superior military context.
