| dc.description.abstract | This final internship report of the degree in Veterinary Nursing describes the activities developed by the student at the Clínica Veterinária de Faro and at the Centro Veterinário da Estação, simultaneously addressing the theme of animal rehabilitation. The general objectives of this internship included the monitoring of the routines in the internship place and the development of functions in the area of veterinary nursing. During the internship, the student observed a total of 28 cats and 23 dogs at the Clínica Veterinária de Faro, and 63 cats, 61 dogs and 16 new pets at the Centro Veterinário da Estação. Animal rehabilitation has as main objective the recovery of the animal after an injury or pathology in order to help it reach the maximum level of functionality, independence and quality of life. This report addresses the different physical agents used in animal rehabilitation, as well as some of the different types of locomotor training. In order to highlight its applicability and relevance, two pathologies are addressed: intervertebral disc disease and osteoarthritis, in which rehabilitation contributes to improving the quality of life of animals and owners. The success of the canine rehabilitation plan depends largely on the dedication of the owners, particularly the care to be taken in terms of diet, urinary management, the prevention of the appearance of bedsores and the application of massage techniques and exercises, that must correctly explained, practiced and applied at home. In order to help provide tools to the tutor in the rehabilitation process, the student made a proposal for a manual of good functional rehabilitation practices at home, using accessible language and supporting images to facilitate their understanding. We can thus conclude that a good communication with the owner is one of the main reasons for the success of the home rehabilitation plan. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Este relatório de estágio final da Licenciatura em Enfermagem Veterinária descreve as atividades desenvolvidas pela aluna na Clínica Veterinária de Faro e no Centro Veterinário da Estação, abordando simultaneamente o tema da reabilitação animal. Os objetivos gerais deste estágio passaram pelo acompanhamento das rotinas do local de estágio, bem como o desempenho de funções na área da enfermagem veterinária. Durante o estágio a aluna observou 28 felinos e 23 canídeos na clínica veterinária de Faro, e no Centro Veterinário da Estação foram acompanhados 63 felinos, 61 canídeos e 16 novos animais de companhia. A reabilitação animal tem como principal objetivo a recuperação do animal após uma lesão ou patologia, por forma a ajudá-lo a atingir o nível máximo de capacidades, independência e qualidade de vida. Neste relatório são abordadas as diferentes modalidades físicas utilizadas na reabilitação animal, bem como alguns dos diferentes tipos de treino locomotor. De forma a realçar a sua aplicabilidade e relevância são abordadas duas patologias: a doença de disco intervertebral e a osteoartrite, nas quais a reabilitação contribui para melhorar a qualidade de vida de animais e tutores. O sucesso do plano de reabilitação canina depende, em grande parte, da dedicação dos tutores, nomeadamente dos cuidados a ter ao nível da dieta, do maneio urinário, da prevenção do aparecimento das escaras de decúbito e da aplicação de massagens e exercícios que, após devidamente explicados e exemplificados, podem ser praticados em casa. Com o objetivo de ajudar a fornecer ferramentas ao tutor no processo de reabilitação, a aluna realizou uma proposta de manual de boas práticas de reabilitação funcional em casa, utilizando uma linguagem acessível e imagens de apoio para facilitar a sua compreensão. Assim, pode concluir-se que a boa comunicação com o tutor se apresenta como um dos principais motivos para o sucesso do plano de reabilitação em casa | pt_PT |
