A Guarda Costeira de Cabo Verde, apesar de ter um sistema com diversos meios que auxiliam na monitorização do mar de Cabo Verde, a falta de um sistema radar é uma grande limitação nesse sistema. Partindo da premissa de que existe essa necessidade de ter um sistema radar, surgiu a necessidade de criar uma ferramenta que auxilie no planeamento da instalação desse sistema radar.
O simulador desenvolvido se baseia nos princípios teóricos do radar, nas técnicas de simulação, nos conceitos que envolvem a propagação de RF e usando as ferramentas que o MatLab disponibiliza.
O simulador está destinado a ser utilizado pela guarda costeira de Cabo Verde, permitindo avaliar efetivamente as necessidades de cobertura radar e planear a implantação de um sistema radar de acordo. Desta forma, este trabalho contribui para a melhoria dos esforços de vigilância marítima e segurança costeira em Cabo Verde.
