O presente relatório descreve o estágio curricular final da Licenciatura
em Enfermagem Veterinária da Escola Superior de Biociências de Elvas
(ESBE), realizado na Lagos Vet Clinic, em Lagos. Este estágio permitiu a
aplicação prática dos conhecimentos adquiridos ao longo da formação
académica, contribuindo para o desenvolvimento de competências técnicas e
profissionais em contexto clínico. O trabalho aborda a temática “Cuidados de
enfermagem veterinária em pacientes críticos”, destacando a importância do
papel do enfermeiro veterinário na abordagem destes animais, nomeadamente
na triagem, avaliação primária e secundária, monitorização clínica e
laboratorial, suporte dos principais sistemas orgânicos, fluidoterapia, nutrição,
controlo da dor e promoção do bem-estar animal. Durante o período de estágio,
a aluna desenvolveu atividades nas áreas da cirurgia, internamento, laboratório
e apoio às consultas, tendo acompanhado maioritariamente animais da espécie
canina, num total de 306 pacientes. Entre as principais atividades realizadas
destacam-se o auxílio na colheita de sangue, os procedimentos odontológicos
e o acompanhamento do recobro pós-cirúrgico. No âmbito do tema
desenvolvido, foram analisados três casos clínicos: um paciente com sinais
clínicos de ascite, posteriormente diagnosticado com peritonite infeciosa felina
(PIF), um paciente com intoxicação por rodenticidas, e um paciente com
obstrução gástrica pelo um corpo estranho. Estes casos permitiram observar
diferentes abordagens diagnósticas e terapêuticas aplicadas a doentes em
estado crítico.
This report describes the final curricular internship of the bachelor’s in veterinary nursing from the Biosciences School of Higher Education in Elvas (ESBE), carried out at the Lagos Vet Clinic, in Lagos. This internship made way for the practical application of the knowledge acquired throughout the academic training, contributing to the development of technical and professional skills in a clinical context. The work addresses the theme "Veterinary nursing care in critically ill patients", highlighting the importance of the veterinary nurse's role in the approach to these animals, notably in triage, primary and secondary assessment, clinical and laboratory monitoring, support of the main organ systems, fluid therapy, nutrition, pain control and promotion of animal welfare. During the internship period, the student developed activities in the areas of surgery, hospitalization, laboratory, and consultation support, having mostly cared for canine animals, totaling 306 patients. Among the main activities performed, the following stand out: assistance in blood collection, dental procedures, and monitoring of post-surgical recovery. Within the scope of the developed theme, three clinical cases were analysed: a patient with clinical signs of ascites, later diagnosed with feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a patient with rodenticide poisoning, and a patient with gastric obstruction by a foreign body. These cases allowed for the observation of different diagnostic and therapeutic approaches applied to critically ill patients.
