Abstract(s)
O aluno
acompanhou inúmeros casos, dando especial atenção a casos de lesão do plexo braquial, tema
escolhido para a elaboração do presente relatório. A lesão do plexo braquial é geralmente
This report is the culmination of the internship carried out at the Hospital Veterinário da Arrábida (HVA) and at the Centro de Reabilitação Animal da Arrábida (CRAA). This internship lasted for about three months. With the completion of this internship the student intends to develop skills, putting into practice previously acquired knowledge. The intern actively participated in several areas of activity, namely in surgery, hospitalization, rehabilitation, follow up in consultations and clinical analyzes. The student followed numerous cases, paying special attention to cases of brachial plexus injury, the theme chosen for the preparation of this report. The injury to the brachial plexus is usually caused by trauma, which involves traction of the thoracic limb due to forces in it, causing damage to the nerve roots. The most frequent injury is avulsion of the brachial plexus, in which traumatic injury is the main cause, especially pedestrian accidents or falls from heights. There is no protocolized treatment, and the only viable therapy is the use of conservative therapy. This therapy focuses on functional rehabilitation, protection and support of the injured limb and pain management, essentially of neuropathic origin. The sick dog in the study underwent treatment with a conservative approach, using rehabilitation plans, which included rehabilitation modalities such as functional electrostimulation, class IV laser therapy and ultrasound, in addition to locomotor training consisting of kinesiotherapy exercises, gait on land and water treadmill. In relation to the developed theme, the student deepened and recalled concepts, acquired new knowledge and practical skills useful in the area of rehabilitation. This report aims to present data that prove the importance of rehabilitation in cases of brachial plexus injury.
