Vasconcelos, Adelaide Maria Ferreira Bernardes De; Bahcevandziev, KirilThe purpose of this work is to develop studies in parks and gardens — Parque Verde, Jardim da Casa do Sal, and Jardim de Montes Claros — with the aim of understanding the floristic resources, contributing to a more accurate knowledge of the shrub and tree heritage of these gardens, and creating management tools for these spaces.Surveys were carried out in 2010 and 2025 to assess the characteristics of each green space, with the aim of comparing their evolution over time. This allows for a better understanding of these spaces and their importance to the city of Coimbra, as well as for characterizing the main habitats and the floristic diversity of the gardens, including ornamental, recreational, and leisure areas.Through this comparative study on the state of maintenance and the existing species, a set of proposed rules for the use and maintenance of municipal green spaces was developed.The comparative analysis of the surveys conducted in 2010 and 2025 in the evaluated green spaces shows an increase in floristic diversity, particularly highlighting the rise in the number of species, especially tree species.Alnus glutinosa (Common Alder) is the predominant species in Jardim da Casa do Sal, while in Jardim de Montes Claros the main species are Arbutus unedo (Strawberry Tree) and Liriodendron tulipifera (Tulip Tree). In the Parque Verde do Mondego - Right Bank, Fraxinus excelsior (European Ash) stands out.
