- Validation of a digital tool in the era of mental health : the example of dementiaPublication . Inez, Raquel Calheiros Catroga; Costa, Filipa Alves da; Paulino, Ema; Aguiar, João PedroIntroduction:Dementia is one of the examples where currently mobile applications (MA) can be an asset, allowing patients or caregivers to improve their disease management (including medication management - MM). Many of the available MA come from other countries, so it’s important to explore what are the needs of caregivers and health professionals (HCPs), making it possible to adapt them. Aims: a) identify MA available to caregivers and people with dementia in the literature and in digital stores; b) explore the difficulties perceived by caregivers and characteristics to include in a new MA; c) explore the needs perceived by the PS on the characteristics considered most relevant to be included in an MA. Methods: Three steps: a systematic literature review (PRISMA guidelines) was carried out, complementing with a search in digital stores to identify tools already available; individual interviews were conducted with informal caregivers, asking them about difficulties in managing the disease, in MM and experience of using MA; finally, a nominal group technique with HCPs was performed to explore characteristics to be included in a MA. Results: 12 references were included, extracting a total of 47 MA. Complementing the digital stores, 29 MA were extracted. Only 19.7% MA had any resource related to MM. Most difficulties perceived by the three interviewed caregivers were related to disease management and MM. For HCPs, the main characteristics identified included communication with HCPs and MM, with a tie (23 points). Conclusion: Most of the MA identified in the literature were not available in digital stores and many did not consider MM as a characteristic. Some caregivers were unaware of the existence of MA and HCPs recommended that MA that are easy to use and more personalized can be useful for users and may lead to the adaptation of a tool to the Portuguese reality.
