- The intersection of art and photography: Defining artistry in photography through style, aesthetic, and self-expressionPublication . Hauser, Zorka Hanna; Kocogullari, DilayThe following thesis explores the link between photography and visual art, with an emphasis on how aesthetic criteria typically associated with fine art might be applied to modern photographic practice. The study investigates how photography can serve as an expressive artistic medium in addition to documenting reality through a discussion of aesthetic theory, photographic interpretation, and the functions of streetscape, urban, and environmental photography. This work argues that photography relies on visual signals, perception, and narrative framing to achieve artistic worth, just like painting or other conventional art forms. Since the project portion includes images from several authentic genres, the thesis investigates street photography, environmental portraiture, and streetscape photography as these categories apply most to the images. The project demonstrates how street photography, environmental portraiture, and streetscape may bridge the gap between factual realism and fine art expression by portraying everyday locations via an artistic lens. This study shows how photography can turn everyday settings into significant visual experiences when done with artistic intent and aesthetic awareness. The thesis position photography's status as a fine art medium and a documentary tool by fusing impromptu practice with theoretical investigation.
