- Measurement of charged particle spectra in minimum-bias events from proton–proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13\,\text {TeV} $Publication . CMS collaboration (2294 authors); Nayak, Aruna; Bargassa, Pedrame; Da Cruz E Silva, Cristvo Beiro; Di Francesco, Agostino; Faccioli, Pietro; Galinhas, Bruno; Gallinaro, Michele; Hollar, Jonathan; Leonardo, Nuno; Iglesias, Lara Lloret; Seixas, Joao; Strong, Giles; Toldaiev, Oleksii; Vadruccio, Daniele; Varela, Joao; Vischia, Pietro; David Tinoco Mendes, Andre; Silva, Pedro; Musella, PasqualePseudorapidity, transverse momentum, and multiplicity distributions are measured in the pseudorapidity range $|\eta | < 2.4$ for charged particles with transverse momenta satisfying $p_{\mathrm {T}} > 0.5\,\text {GeV} $ in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 13\,\text {TeV} $ . Measurements are presented in three different event categories. The most inclusive of the categories corresponds to an inelastic $\mathrm {p}$ $\mathrm {p}$ data set, while the other two categories are exclusive subsets of the inelastic sample that are either enhanced or depleted in single diffractive dissociation events. The measurements are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo event generators used to describe high-energy hadronic interactions in collider and cosmic-ray physics.
- Measurement of the differential cross section and charge asymmetry for inclusive $\mathrm {p}\mathrm {p}\rightarrow \mathrm {W}^{\pm }+X$ production at ${\sqrt{s}} = 8$ TeVPublication . CMS collaboration (2294 authors); Calpas, Betty; Nayak, Aruna; Bargassa, Pedrame; Beirão Da Cruz E Silva, Cristóvão; Di Francesco, Agostino; Faccioli, Pietro; Ferreira Parracho, Pedro Guilherme; Gallinaro, Michele; Hollar, Jonathan; Leonardo, Nuno; Lloret Iglesias, Lara; Nguyen, Federico; Rodrigues Antunes, Joao; Seixas, Joao; Toldaiev, Oleksii; Vadruccio, Daniele; Varela, Joao; Vischia, Pietro; David Tinoco Mendes, Andre; Silva, Pedro; Musella, Pasquale; Pela, JoaoThe differential cross section and charge asymmetry for inclusive pp to W + X to mu + neutrino + X production at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV are measured as a function of muon pseudorapidity. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 18.8 inverse femtobarns recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. These results provide important constraints on the parton distribution functions of the proton in the range of the Bjorken scaling variable x from 10E-3 to 10E-1.
- Measurement of the integrated and differential $t \bar t$ production cross sections for high-$p_t$ top quarks in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt s =$ 8 TeVPublication . CMS collaboration (2294 authors); Calpas, Betty; Nayak, Aruna; Bargassa, Pedrame; Beirão Da Cruz E Silva, Cristóvão; Di Francesco, Agostino; Faccioli, Pietro; Ferreira Parracho, Pedro Guilherme; Gallinaro, Michele; Hollar, Jonathan; Leonardo, Nuno; Lloret Iglesias, Lara; Nguyen, Federico; Rodrigues Antunes, Joao; Seixas, Joao; Toldaiev, Oleksii; Vadruccio, Daniele; Varela, Joao; Vischia, Pietro; David Tinoco Mendes, Andre; Silva, Pedro; Musella, Pasquale; Pela, JoaoThe cross section for pair production of top quarks (tt¯) with high transverse momenta is measured in pp collisions, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC with s=8 TeV in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1. The measurement is performed using lepton+jets events, where one top quark decays semileptonically, while the second top quark decays to a hadronic final state. The hadronic decay is reconstructed as a single, large-radius jet, and identified as a top quark candidate using jet substructure techniques. The integrated cross section and the differential cross sections as a function of top quark pT and rapidity are measured at particle level within a fiducial region related to the detector-level requirements and at parton level. The particle-level integrated cross section is found to be σtt¯=0.499±0.035(stat+syst)±0.095(theo)±0.013(lumi) pb for top quark pT>400 GeV. The parton-level measurement is σtt¯=1.44±0.10(stat+syst)±0.29(theo)±0.04(lumi) pb. The integrated and differential cross section results are compared to predictions from several event generators.
