- Anomalia Congénita Coclear: Tentativa de Relação Embriológica e Anátomo-FuncionalPublication . Maurício, JC; Biscoito, L; Branco, GIn this review of cochlear malformations, 17 cases were studied by CT scan (high resolution-target program) including 10 males and 7 females. The anomaly was bilateral in 12 cases and unilateral in 7 (the latter included 2 Mondini type aplasias and one Michel). The cochlear malformation (whose most frequent expression was the cochlear hypoplasia with 1 or 1 1/2 spires-65% of the cases) was associated to semicircular canals and/or vestibular aqueduct anomaly in 82% of the patients; it was exclusively of the anterior labyrinth in 18% of the cases. A middle ear malformation coexisted in 29%: in 3 cases with malleoincudal dysmorphy only and with tympanic aplasia in 2 others. These cochlear anomalies with CT expression were discussed considering the embryology, in view of a possible gestational dating, moreover relating to the hipocusia type: perceptive or combined.
- Intraventricular Ganglioglioma Presenting with Spontaneous HemorrhagePublication . Campos, AR; Biscoito, L; Gasparinho, MGIntraventricular gangliogliomas presenting with spontaneous hemorrhage are rare. Due to high density of important tracts lateral to the ventricular atrium, the intraparietal trans sulcal approach is a good option to remove lesions in this location. These tracts are displaced and sometimes destroyed by the presence of large masses. A 33-year-old male presented with a sudden headache and a generalized seizure. He had a left visual field hemianopia and left visual field neglect. Brain computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a hemorrhagic tumor located in his right atrium. With the help of tractography an optimal corridor to the tumor through the intraparietal sulcus was planned. Gross total removal of a ganglioglioma was possible with recovery of visual impairment and control of epilepsy. The efficacy in using tractography as a planning tool for safe tumor removal is demonstrated with clinical, imagiological and histological data, and a surgical video.
