Abstract(s)
A proposta de leitura que apresentamos, é de um trabalho que se reporta a dois
séculos atrás, guiados por uma personalidade que se moveu em diversos meios, como
o Corpo de Engenheiros do Exército, a Academia das Ciências de Lisboa, a Fábrica
Nacional de Cordoaria ou o desempenho de cargos políticos.
O olhar atento de Marino Miguel Franzini (1779-1861) na arte da meteorologia,
onde foi um dos pioneiros na vertente sistemática, em Portugal, através das medições
que realizou na sua própria casa, permitindo-lhe a entrada para o panorama científico
do século XIX.
Além da vertente científica ligada à vertente meteorológica, também se destacou
em diversas áreas como a matemática, a estatística, a cartografia nacional elaborando
diversas cartas para os navegadores de todo o mundo, bem como através do Exército
Português, visto a Corte ter delegado nesta instituição esta responsabilidade.
É na procura de destrinçar o homem, o militar, o político, o meteorologista, o
cientista que nossa investigação recaiu para a elaboração desta dissertação de
mestrado.
The thesis that we present, regards a work reporting to two centuries ago, guided by a persona that lived in different environments, in the “Corpo de Engenheiros do Exército”, the “Academia das Ciências de Lisboa”, the “Fábrica Nacional de Cordoaria” and in different political positions. The watchful eye of Marino Miguel Franzini (1779-1861) in the art of meteorology, where he was one of the pioneers in the systematic approach, in Portugal, throw different calculations taken in his own house, allowing him to entry the scientific panorama of the century XIX. Despite his scientific connection to meteorology, he also excelled in different areas such as mathematics, statistic, national cartography elaborating different navigation charts to sailors all over the world, as well cartography works connected to the Portuguese Army, due to the Court had delegated him the responsibility of this institution in terms of this scientific area. It is in the quest to uncover the man, the military, the politic, the meteorological, the scientist that our research fell into for the elaboration of this master’s thesis.
