- Inner landscapes: Exploring abstract emotional states through 360º virtual reality animationPublication . Rabal, Adelaida Roca; Levitan, Cynthia; Alevato, BernardoThis thesis explores how virtual reality (VR), through the manipulation of visual and auditory elements such as color, movement, sound, and spatial composition, can serve as a space for emotional approximation—rather than direct transmission—of basic emotions like joy, sadness, anger, and fear in immersive artistic experiences. The main objective is to analyze the emotional and perceptual impact of experimental 360° animation using abstract visual and auditory elements to symbolically evoke these emotions, without relying on linear narratives or traditional characters. The methodological approach is based on Research Through Design (RtD), where the creative process and design generate knowledge. The experience was developed using 360° animations in Blender and presented at the LIFE Lab of PUC-Rio, where users with different levels of VR experience responded positively, appreciating various levels of immersion and detail. To broaden the project’s reach, a fanzine was created to make the intangible experience tangible, providing access to a wider audience. This work represents a significant contribution to the artistic exploration of VR as a medium for creating symbolic emotional environments and opens new perspectives for experimental audiovisual storytelling in immersive settings.
