Introdução: A diabetes é uma problemática quer a nível mundial quer nacional, nesse sentido
desenvolvemos um projeto de intervenção comunitária, que visa a promoção do autocuidado para restabelecer a funcionalidade do dia-a-dia, mantendo um elevado nível de satisfação cognitivo, físico e social. Devemos efetuar uma abordagem multidimensional dos problemas do indivíduo de modo a melhorar/capacitar a sua capacidade funcional, perante determinada necessidade. Objetivo: Promoção do autocuidado da pessoa com a diabetes tipo 2. Método: Utilizamos a metodologia do planeamento em saúde. Tendo sido aplicado uma escala de autocuidado aos utentes com diabetes e realizadas sessões de educação para a saúde. Resultados: Verificamos défice de autocuidado na alimentação e no exercício físico. Posteriormente às sessões de educação para a saúde constatamos pela reaplicação da escala que foi possível contribuir para a capacitação e promoção do autocuidado. Conclusão: A capacitação da pessoa sob a forma de educação para a saúde é uma das estratégias mais eficaz
