Numa perspetiva metodológica, o presente estudo foi desenvolvido segundo o paradigma interpretativo da investigação qualitativa baseado na investigação-ação. Procurou-se responder às seguintes questões de investigação: Que tipos de brincadeiras que surgem a partir do brincar com materiais semi estruturados e não estruturados; que possibilidades de exploração surgem quando se disponibilizam às crianças este tipo de materiais e quais os domínios de aprendizagem se identificam no brincar das crianças com este tipo de materiais. Os 15 participantes desta investigação compreenderam crianças na faixa etária de 2 anos, na sala onde a investigadora estagiou durante o último estágio de Mestrado. A recolha de dados foi realizada de maneira abrangente, envolvendo observações diretas, notas de campo e recolha de dados através de fotografias. A análise dos dados recolhidos realizou-se com recurso às notas de campo durante ou após o decorrer das atividades realizadas bem como através da análise das fotografias durante os diversos momentos de exploração. Os resultados mostram que os materiais disponibilizados permitiram que as crianças explorassem diferentes brincadeiras e tivessem um papel ativo na construção do seu conhecimento, satisfizessem a sua criatividade e, no processo desenvolvessem o seu conhecimento e a sua criatividade. Dos vários tipos de brincadeiras com materiais semiestruturados e não estruturados é possível destacar o brincar exploratório. Foi notória a participação ativa de todo o grupo embora, algumas crianças tivessem uma participação mais ativa do que outras.The present report is the result of an investigation conducted within the scope of the Master's in Preschool Education, entitled: Play with semi-structured and unstructured materials - experience in a daycare context. From a methodological perspective, the present study was developed according to the interpretative paradigm of qualitative research based on action research. The aim was to answer the following research questions: What types of play arise from playing with semi-structured and unstructured materials; what exploration possibilities emerge when these types of materials are made available to children, and which learning domains are identified in children's play with these types of materials. The 15 participants in this research comprised children aged 2 years old, in the room where the researcher interned during the last Master's internship. Data collection was carried out comprehensively, involving direct observations, field notes, and data collection through photographs. The analysis of the collected data was conducted using field notes during or after the activities, as well as through the analysis of photographs taken during the various moments of exploration. The results show that the materials provided allowed the children to explore different types of play and take an active role in the construction of their knowledge, satisfy their creativity, and, in the process, develop their knowledge and creativity. Among the various types of play with semi-structured and unstructured materials, exploratory play stands out.
