Elvashttp://hdl.handle.net/10400.26/39914Os principais problemas odontológicos em gatos, consistem na doença periodontal, na gengivoestomatite crónica felina, na reabsorção dentária, nas úlceras e fraturas da cavidade oral. Estes problemas, podem ser muito condicionantes e debilitantes para a qualidade de vida e bem-estar dos animais, sendo a sua prevenção essencial para manter a saúde oral e geral dos gatos domésticos. Durante o período de estágio, realizado entre os dias 08/03 e 31/03/2021 na clínica VetMadeira, foi efetuado um estudo descritivo, que teve como objetivo, compreender quais os principais factores que podem influenciar no desenvolvimento destes problemas. Através da recolha de dados das fichas clínicas dos pacientes, foram registados os principais problemas odontológicos, doenças possivelmente relacionadas aos mesmos, sexo, idade, raça, condições de vida, e tipo de dieta que estes animais possuíam. Concluiu-se que, da amostra de estudo, composta por 56 gatos, os factores prevalentes foram, a doença periodontal, o sexo masculino, a idade adulta, nenhuma raça definida, associações ou colónias, dietas mistas, e o vírus da imunodeficiência felina. A aluna realizou uma proposta, sobre a implementação de consultas de higiene oral, que pretendem diminuir a incidência deste tipo de problemas, apelar à prevenção dos mesmos, realçar a importância de um diagnóstico precoce, e sensibilizar e educar os tutores, para que estes possam realizar os métodos preventivos em casa, de uma forma correta e segura. No decorrer do estágio, a aluna teve a oportunidade de trabalhar em diversas áreas, essencialmente em cirurgia e no internamento, nas quais a mesma auxiliou 126 cirurgias, e realizou 877 tarefas de enfermagem no internamento e na sala de tratamentos. Este estágio, permitiu o seu desenvolvimento pessoal e profissional, onde foi possível adquirir diversos conhecimentos e competências de trabalho.The main odontological problems in cats are periodontal disease, chronic feline gingivostomatitis, tooth resorption, ulcers and fractures of the oral cavity. These problems can be very conditioning and debilitating for the quality of life and well-being of animals, and their prevention is essential to maintain the oral and general health of domestic cats. During the internship period, held between 03/08 and 03/31/2021 at the VetMadeira clinic, a descriptive study was carried out, which aimed to understand the main factors that can result in the development of these problems. By obtaining data from the patients clinical records, it was possible to register, the main odontological problems, diseases possibly related to them, sex, age, race, living conditions, and type of diet that these animals had. It was concluded that, of the study sample, composed of 56 cats, the prevalent factors were periodontal disease, male gender, adult age, no defined breed, associations or colonies, mixed diets, and feline immunodeficiency virus. The student made a proposal on the implementation of oral hygiene consultations, which aim to reduce the incidence of these types of problems, call for their prevention, highlight the importance of an early diagnosis, and raise awareness and educate tutors, so that they can do perform preventive methods at home, in a correct and safe way. During the internship, the student had the opportunity to work in several areas, mainly in surgery and internment, in which she assisted 126 surgeries, and performed 877 nursing tasks in the internment and treatment rooms.
