Foi adotado um raciocínio indutivo e uma estratégia qualitativa, tendo por base um estudo de caso, recorrendo a análise documental, observação direta e entrevistas semiestruturadas, recolhendo contributos de especialistas. Os resultados da investigação demonstram que o Batalhão de Infantaria Pesado apresenta uma organização adequada aos meios disponíveis, embora condicionado pela aplicabilidade do conceito de manutenção. A atual plataforma revela-se tecnologicamente obsoleta, com lacunas de proteção, letalidade e interoperabilidade. As infraestruturas de treino são boas, mas limitadas pela ausência de meios de simulação. A substituição da plataforma representa uma oportunidade para rever o quadro orgânico, reforçar a cooperação com a indústria de defesa nacional e investir ao nível da manutenção e dos meios de simulação, embora os constrangimentos financeiros, as ameaças do atual ambiente operacional e a ausência de revisão do Sistema de Forças apresentem alguns desafios. Relacionando-se os fatores dos ambientes interno e externo, foram definidos os contributos para a modernização, apresentados em quatro linhas de ação – Aproveitar, Proteger, Melhorar e Adaptar – visando potenciar recursos, mitigar vulnerabilidades, reforçar a sustentabilidade e promover a resiliência da nova plataforma.The aim of this research is to propose contributions to the implementation of a new Infantry Armoured Platform. Inductive reasoning and a qualitative strategy were adopted, based on a case study using documentary analysis, direct observation and semi-structured interviews, gathering input from specialists. The results of the research show that the Heavy Infantry Battalion is well structured regarding the available resources, although conditioned by the applicability of the concept of maintenance. The current platform is technologically obsolete, with low levels of protection, lethality and interoperability. Training infrastructures are good, however limited by the absence of simulation systems. Replacing the platform represents an opportunity to review the organisational structure, strengthen cooperation with the national defence industry and investment in maintenance and simulation systems, although financial constraints, the threats of the current operational environment and the lack of adequate strategic structural plans may present some challenges. The contributions to the modernisation of the platform are organised into four lines of action – Harness, Protect, Improve and Adapt – with the aim of maximizing strengths, mitigating vulnerabilities, strengthening sustainability and promoting the new platform's resilience.portext
