A inovação tecnológica permitirá a breve prazo que carros conduzam sozinhos. Grandes empresas têm-se dedicado ao desenvolvimento destes veículos, havendo já vários testes realizados. Ao nível legal, embora ainda falte caminho a percorrer, há avanços a nível europeu e da União Europeia no sentido de adaptar as leis. A utilização destes veículos além de permitirem viagens mais seguras, faz com que os seus utilizadores possam estar a trabalhar enquanto são conduzidos. Surgem com a promessa de redução de acidentes, pois obedecem às regras, aos sinais e aos avisos. Além da mobilidade urbana, permitem cidades mais limpas e ecológicas. A própria Polícia de Segurança Pública poderá beneficiar destes veículos e tornar rotinas do dia-a-sai mais práticas e seguras. O papel do agente fiscalizador de trânsito poderá sofrer uma mudança de paradigma e deixar de se centrar no comportamento dos condutores e centrar na criminalidade associada à tecnologia e à cibersegurança. Concluímos então que os desafios serão bem diferentes dos atuais e que haverá necessidade de adaptação da formação.This study aims to identify the challenges autonomous vehicles will present to security forces and traffic enforcement officers. Technological innovation will soon allow cars to drive themselves. Large companies have been dedicated to the development of these vehicles, and several tests have already been conducted. At a legal level, although there is still a long way to go, there are advances at a European level and in the European Union in the sense of adapting the laws. In addition of safer trips, the usage of these vehicles also allows their users to work while they are being driven. They come with the promise of reducing accidents, because they obey the rules, the signs, and the warnings. Besides urban mobility, they allow cleaner and greener cities. The Public Security Police itself can benefit from these vehicles and make day-to-day routines more practical and safer. The role of the traffic policeman may undergo a paradigm shift from focusing on driver behavior to focusing on crime associated with technology and cybersecurity.
