Revista Humanidades (Unifor), 27(1), 44-57.2318-0714http://hdl.handle.net/10400.26/23335A partir de princípios consagrados na Convenção dos Direitos da Criança da ONU e nas legislações brasileira e portuguesa, este artigo discute com base numa ampla revisão de literatura quatro problemáticas fundamentais para uma representação noticiosa que proteja e promova os direitos infantis: a escassez de notícias sobre crianças e de enquadramentos numa perspectiva de direitos, a identificação de crianças, a criação de estereótipos e o silenciamento das crianças como fonte de informações. É possível apontar pontos positivos da cobertura noticiosa como uma maior visibilidade e debate público sobre problemas que afetam às crianças, por outro lado, persistem a identificação de crianças e adolescentes em situações prejudiciais ao seu desenvolvimento, a estigmatização de crianças e adolescentes em situação de vulnerabilidade social ou de minorias raciais/étnicas e a presença da voz das crianças apenas como registro curioso ou “engraçadinho”. Em suma, há uma escassez de enquadramentos na perspectiva dos direitos que aponta para a necessidade de se promover os direitos infantis como uma questão política que incentive uma cobertura mais sistemática sobre o status das crianças na sociedade.Based on principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Brazilian and Portuguese legislation, this article debates four fundamental issues to a news representation which protect and promote children’s rights: the lack of news about children and frameworks in a rights perspective, children’s identification, the creation of stereotypes and the silencing of children as news source. It is possible to point, from an extensive literature review, news coverage strengths such as greater visibility and public debate on issues affecting children, however, some problems remain as the identification of children and adolescents in situations harmful to their development, the stigmatization of vulnerable and ethnic minorities children and young people and the children’s voices only in cute situations.
