Embora a Lei de Bases do Sistema Educativo exclua por completo o atendimento às crianças dos 0 aos 3 anos, é imprescindível que se reflita sobre as práticas realizadas nas creches. O vocábulo educare vem introduzir um conceito de uma prática que integra os cuidados e a educação nos programas de creche, porque não podemos realizar bons cuidados sem educar nem educar sem cuidar. Este trabalho surge no âmbito da prática supervisionada de estágio em creche e foi desenvolvido tendo por base o paradigma qualitativo/interpretativo, na medida em que se pretendeu analisar e interpretar a prática educativa da educadora responsável da sala de 1º berçário, à luz do conceito educare. Os dados utilizados tiveram por base a observação participante e a entrevista realizada à referida educadora. As conclusões salientam a necessidade de cada vez mais se considerar a creche um espaço onde a educação e os cuidados aconteçam de forma integrada, de modo a responder às necessidades de cada criança, promovendo dessa forma um desenvolvimento o mais harmonioso possível.This investigation project report on the social response of child daycare arises in an area with little investigation in Portugal. Although the Law on Education omits altogether the attendance to children from 0 to 3 years it is essential reflect on the practices carried out in daycare centers. The word educare comes to introduce a concept of a practice that integrates care and education in day-care programs, because we can't accomplish good care without educating or educate without care. This work arises within the supervised practice of training in daycare and was developed based on the qualitative/interpretative paradigm, in so far as it is intended to analyse and interpret the educational practice of a cooperative educator in the light of the educare concept. The data used were based on participant observation and an interview conducted with the cooperative educator.
