A telessaúde concorre para esta finalidade, utilizando as tecnologias da informação e comunicação na prestação de cuidados remotamente, ultrapassando barreiras e aproximando profissionais de saúde e utentes. Esta investigação estuda a telessaúde e os aspetos que potenciem a sua implementação nas Forças Armadas, ao nível das pessoas, processos e tecnologia. Após analise à implementação e tendências da telessaúde no Sistema Nacional de Saúde é avaliada a situação no Sistema de Saúde Militar, identificando medidas aplicáveis ao âmbito militar e que proporcionem a interligação e convergência dos dois sistemas. O estudo segue um raciocínio indutivo, uma estratégia de investigação qualitativa e um estudo de caso como desenho de pesquisa. No final, infere-se que para implementar a telessaúde deverá existir determinação das lideranças; é necessário gerir eficientemente as pessoas, sendo fundamental a sua qualificação; as tecnologias de informação e comunicação precisam de ser atualizadas segundo requisitos mais sofisticados; e, urge melhorar processos, potenciando a utilização das tecnologias através da ação das pessoas. Como resultado da investigação elencam-se medidas para potenciar a implementação da telessaúde nas Forças Armadas.Military Health directly influences the military´s quality of life, contributing to operationality and to achieving the success of the Armed Forces' missions. Telehealth can contribute for this purpose, using information and communication technologies to provide care remotely, overcoming barriers and bringing health professionals and users closer together. This investigation studies telehealth and aspects that enhance its implementation in the Armed Forces, at the scope of people, processes, and technology. After analysing the implementation and trends of telehealth in the National Health System, the situation in the Military Health System is assessed, identifying applicable measures in the military scope, and providing the linkage and convergence between the two systems. The study follows an inductive reasoning, a qualitative research strategy and a case study research design. At the end, it is possible to conclude that to implement telehealth, leadership must be determined; it is necessary to manage people efficiently, and their qualification being essential; information and communication technologies need to be updated according advanced standards; and, there is an urgent need to improve processes, enhancing the use of technologies through the action of people.
